Joel Bourne

I was born in Calgary , Alberta

I lived in Southwest Calgary for most of my life.

Carving wood progressed to carving soapstone in the late 1980's

There was a stone sculpture symposium on Princes Island Park in the early 1990's that I discovered accidently one day.

The Stone Sculptors Guild of North America was a young organization founded by J.R. Galts and Chu Honsun.

Sandstone sculptures from that public event can still be seen in different areas of Downtown Calgary.

I was fortunate to be part of the guild's 2007 stone sculpture symposium under the leadership of Eldon Guay.,

We were able to complete our works in the six weeks available to us.

My sculpture , based on nature , is named "Flower". The theme of our symposium was title "The Circle of Life" and I was pleased with the results our group achieved.

The sculptures are carved from Texas Sandstone
